VIA Terrazzo is a genuine lime-based terrazzo – a mineral floor covering in the Venetian tradition (Pavimento alla Veneziana), refined for today’s residential and commercial spaces.
The lime-bound matrix hardens with water glass, does not shrink, and therefore remains crack-free – without cement and without epoxy.
After around 24 hours, the surface can already be dry-ground (clean, fast, without water).
The result: a seamless floor with a fine-crystalline structure, high surface hardness, and a long-lasting matte finish – or, depending on the degree of grinding, a subtle satin sheen.
Why VIA Terrazzo?
SHRINK & CRACK-FREE
Unlike cement-bound terrazzo, VIA Terrazzo based on lime does not shrink when setting - stress cracks are therefore avoided.
FAST PROCESSING
Speed on site: apply today, sand tomorrow - dry sanding after ~24 h, virtually dust-free.
PURELY MINERAL
Purely mineral: cement & epoxy resin-free, fire protection class A1.
OPTICAL QUALITY
Visual quality: seamless, modern terrazzo ("modern terrazzo"/"Italian terrazzo floor").
PLANNING SAFE
Planning security: suitable for old and new buildings, compatible with underfloor heating (electric & water-led).
FLEXIBLE & SUSTAINABLE
Flexible & sustainable: standard mixes, MyTerrazzo (customised), recycled terrazzo; raw material cycle/circular construction possible.

Grain size & paving thickness
SmartTerrazzo
fine- grain size
- 1-4 mm
- Min. installation thickness*
- approx. 5-6 mm
- Optics: very quiet, homogeneous sanding pattern
- Advantage: low installation height, fast sanding paths
- Application: living areas, renovations, precise details
Standard
classic- Grain size
- 6-8 mm
- Min. installation thickness*
- approx. 10-12 mm
- Appearance: classic terrazzo character
- Balance: good relation between installation height and effect
- Application: Residential & commercial areas
Coarse
striking- Grain size
- 12-15 mm
- Min. installation thickness*
- approx. 16-20 mm
- Optics: lively, lots of depth effect
- Note: allow for more sanding & time
- Use: representative surfaces, robust areas
Customised & recycled
Aggregates such as used glass, roof tiles, asphalt, ceramics, metals, shells, LEGO®, cork are possible. Grain size & layer thickness are project-specific - the largest fraction is always decisive. Larger grain ⇒ higher minimum thickness ⇒ more sanding cycles and construction time.
*Guide values. Check object-related (evenness of the substrate, desired sanding pattern, decoupling, utilisation).
Terrazzo Mixes & Aggregates
CLASSIC NATURAL STONES
Noble marbles such as Carrara marble or black marble, durable limestone, and fine-crystalline dolomite are timeless classics. They define the look and quality of our terrazzo mixes – from Pavimento Veneziana to modern terrazzo.
RECYCLING & URBAN TERRAZZO
Glass (recycled glass in green, brown, or blue) adds brilliant accents, ceramics and stone such as roof tiles 2–14 mm stand for short supply chains, sustainability, and a closed raw material cycle in line with circular construction.
EXPERIMENTAL AGGREGATES
Beyond the standard, the VIA laboratory explores a wide range of possibilities – almost without limits: cork, shells, Lego bricks, nuts, metals, and much more have already been implemented in cast terrazzo. Every idea is technically tested and individually realized.
BINDER & COLORING
The binder made from lime/water glass can be individually tinted using colored marble powder or other mineral pigments – e.g. warm grey, ivory, or deep grey. This creates either a two-tone effect between aggregate and binder or a harmonious tone-on-tone solution.
NATURAL STONE LOGIC
VIA terrazzo behaves like natural stone and should be cared for accordingly: with neutral, mild cleaners and without film-forming polishes. For further information, see section “Care”.
ONE-LAYER
TERRAZZO TILES
Precise accents in cast terrazzo
The VIA single-layer terrazzo tiles consist entirely of terrazzo - without a backing layer. They are particularly thin and go perfectly with cast VIA cast terrazzo with a grain size of 6-8 mm. Ideal for edge slabs, ornaments, fields or precise edge guidance.

APPLICATION
Full-surface installation using the buttering-floating method on a prepared substrate. The VIA cast terrazzo is then laid directly adjacent. After curing, the entire surface is sanded to a uniform finish - creating precise transitions exact transitions between the slab and the cast terrazzo. Edges, fields and ornaments are thus neatly integrated.

YOUR INDIVIDUAL TERRAZZO MIX
MyTerrazzo - your floor, your image.
You choose the chippings / aggregate and the base colour; we develop your individual mix.
You can choose from a wide range of aggregates such as marble, limestone, dolomite or special special materials such as coloured glass or regional natural stone. The binder is based on lime and can be coloured with mineral pigments - from classic natural from classic natural shades to bold accent colours.
Special requests - such as a two-tone colour between the grain and binder or the integration of unusual aggregates - are also possible on request. Please send us your enquiry so that we can discuss technical feasibility, availability and costs on an individual basis.

OPTICS, SURFACE & SLIP RESISTANCE
FINISH & APPEARANCE
The degree of sanding determines the surface appearance: from matt with open grain and increased slip resistance to a fine silky lustre with closed pores. This allows the desired look to be can be controlled according to the object.
SLIP RESISTANCE & STANDARDS
Depending on the degree of sanding and finish, R classes up to R11 are realistic. The classification should be be checked on an object-related basis, e.g. in accordance with DIN51130. as a planning basis for terrazzo coverings.
HARDNESS & CARE
Dry sanding compacts the surface. Subsequent impregnation protects against stains without forming a film layer. Care as for natural stone: neutral, mild cleaners, no coatings, periodic refreshing if necessary.
SUBFLOOR, LAYING & CONSTRUCTION
SUBFLOOR / SCREED
Requirements: load-bearing, level, dry. Block residual moisture if necessary, take over expansion joints, plan connections.
LAYING / PLACING
Sanding pattern & installation height depend on the grain size (cross-section sanding, allow for sanding allowance).
UNDERFLOOR HEATING
Suitable for electric and water-based systems: the mineral mass distributes heat evenly. Select build-up/layer thicknesses according to grain size and system; observe heating protocol.
MOULDED OBJECTS & WALLS
VIA Terrazzo is not only suitable for floors. Thanks to the material properties - hard, low-stress and can be sanded dry after ~24 hours - customised objects and prefabricated wall surfaces can be produced and installed.
PROCESSING & LOGISTICS
BUCKET / DEPOSIT SYSTEM
Delivery form: VIA Terrazzo as a ready-mix in a 25 kg bucket – easy quantity calculation, efficient site logistics, approx. 1 year shelf life.
Deposit system: Return of empty buckets from 50 pieces upwards, refund per bucket – details on request or in the catalogue.
Coverage (guideline values):
- Standard (6–8 mm grain size) ≈ 1 bucket ≈ ~1 m²
- Fine (1–4 mm grain size, 5–6 mm thickness) ≈ 1 bucket ≈ ~1,5 m²
- Coarse (12–15 mm grain size) ≈ 1 bucket ≈ ~0.7 m²
